The Ethicon 300 ultraprecision harmonic scalpel utilizes ultrasonic energy to enable hemostatic cutting and coagulation of soft tissue. The Ethicon Harmonic Generator 300 consists of an ultrasonic generator, an optional footswitch, an optional hand-switching adaptor, and an option handpiece. This generator is for soft tissue incision when bleeding control and minimum thermal injury are desired. It can be used as an adjunct to or substitute for electrosurgery, lasers, and steel scalpels.
