This product specializes in the monitoring a fetal heart during pregnancy or delivery of a baby. This keeps track of the heart rate of the baby (fetus). This can tell you if a baby is having problems or not.

Prior to the 1970’s, this was done using a special stethoscope designed to listen to the baby’s movements, often called a fetoscope. This was a way to tell how a baby or fetus is doing during the delivery process.

Know what it is yet?

Yep, it’s a Fetal Monitor!

Today fetal monitors are either computerized or printed out on paper graphs to record both the baby and Mother’s heart rate and condition.

Transducers from the machine are connected by two electronic disks around a woman’s abdomen to monitor the baby’s heartbeat. With the transducers are connected, you can hear the sound of the baby’s heart. The fetal heartbeat is usually seen at the top and the contractions are at the bottom or in some cases on the printouts on the graph paper. They are seen left, is the fetus and right are the contractions.

Talk to your doctor during your pregnancy about how they are planning on monitoring the baby during the delivery process. They may want to use a fetal monitor continuously during the process if you have any health issues. Fetal heart rate monitoring is especially helpful if you have a high-risk pregnancy; if you have diabetes or high blood pressure. It is also considered high risk if the baby is not developed or growing as it should.
