Steps to Take for Safety

There are many things you can do to keep yourself safe in the summer. Today it is going to be over 95 degrees outside. There are many steps to ensure that safety measures are taken. If you are going to be outside, it is advised that you wear sunscreen, usually SPF 30 and higher. You need to reapply every two hours, and as soon as you get out of the water, if you go swimming. By not applying sunscreen you are more than quadrupling your chances of getting skin cancer from a burn.

The other largely important trait is to keep yourself hydrated. On a normal day, it is recommended to drink 8 cups of water a day. However, if you are in the sun, and active, please continue to drink the 8 cups, and more if you feel your body needs it. Heat stroke is very common in the summer. Symptoms of heat stroke include lightheadedness, extreme thirst, nausea, vomiting, and a massive increase in body temperature. If you think someone has heat stroke, immediately call 911, and get them to a cool place and try to have them drink water.
