BD Alaris PC Unit

Regardless of your existing wireless infrastructure, the BD Alaris PC Unit makes it easy to increase IV therapy delivery and has improved practices in clinical environments. The BD Alaris PC Unit Model 8015 is the core of the Alaris system and provides a common user interface for programming infusions and EtCO2 monitoring. Equipped with wireless connectivity, the Alaris 8015 allows data to be sent to your hospital’s system for rapid cycle improvement. This modular infusion system provides collection, interpretation, and response to IV medication data captured at the point of care.

BD Alaris 8015 Features

Exceptional Versatility

The BD Alaris PCU features a common user interface that simplifies IV administration by standardizing Alaris Pumps, Syringes, and PCA modules in one platform. You can add respiratory monitoring to your EtCO2 module which allows clinicians to automatically pause the PCA infusion if the patient falls below the specified respiratory level. There is no need to have a 3rd party barcoding device either. This Modular system has a module called the Alaris Auto-ID module that offers a unique IV barcoding solution that attaches directly to the Alaris System.

Increased Protection for IV Safety

The Guardrails Suite MX provides the right protection for every infusion. This software double-checks the dose, duration, and delivery rate which helps protect critical infusions like chemotherapy. This wirelessly enabled software is available on each device.

Powerful Analytics

The Alaris CareFusion 8015 has the ability to convert data into meaningful information using the Guardrails software. Clinicians can quickly identify opportunities for clinical and operational improvement. With Guardrails CQI reported, and the Infusion Knowledge Portal enabled; you can have the tools to spot minor trends and measure the effectiveness of your IV formularies. Thus allowing clinicians to continuously optimize patient care.

Battery

The runtime of the Alaris 8015 is functionally dependent on the number of modules attached, and the module activity. Here is a list of the battery time with some common scenarios:

  • 6 hours with one Pump module infusing at 25 mL/h.
  • 6 hours with one Pump module infusing at 25 mL/h and one Auto-ID module.
  • 3 hours with four Pump modules infusing at 25 mL/h.
  • 3 hours with four Pump modules infusing at 25 mL/h and one Auto-ID module.
  • 4.5 hours with one active SpO2 module.
  • 6 hours with one Syringe module or PCA module infusing at 5 mL/h.
  • 3 hours with four Syringe modules, or one PCA module and three Syringe modules, infusing at 5 mL/h.
  • 4 hours with one active EtCO2 module.

This machine is equipped with a 12-volt 4000 mAh nickel metal hydride battery. The battery will charge whenever the instrument is plugged into AC power. The life expectancy of the battery is dependent on the amount of use, depth of discharge, and the state of the charge that is maintained. Generally, the battery has the longest life if the instrument is plugged in and the battery is used infrequently. Frequent use of the battery power and insufficient battery charge cycles significantly decrease the life of the battery.

The battery of the Alaris PC unit is shipped discharged. Before use, the unit should be plugged into a hospital-grade AC outlet and be charged for at least 16 hours. This ensures proper battery operation when the Alaris system is first set up for patient use.

The battery is intended as a backup system. You should leave the power cord connected to a hospital-grade AC power source whenever available.  If the device has been used on battery power, ensure that the battery is fully charged prior to using the device on battery power again.

Memory

The system configuration and data set is stored in compact flash memory along with the operating software. The events and error logs are stored in the onboard flash memory in the Alaris PC unit and modules. This is a nonvolatile memory and can be held indefinitely or until replaced with new data. Memory is not lost when power is turned off, or the battery is in a discharged state.

Module-specific parameters are stored for 8 hours when the system is turned off. After 8 hours of continuous off-time, or if a module is detached; module-specific trend data and module-specific operating parameters are automatically purged.

Volume

You can adjust the volume of the device on 5 different levels. Level 1 is greater than 55db and level 5 is greater than 65db but lower than 85db. Levels 2, 3, and 4 are between levels 1 and 5.

BD Alaris PC Unit Modules

BD Alaris Pump Module

BD Allaris Pump Module Model 8100 - Soma Technology, Inc.

The BD Alaris Pump module attaches directly to the Alaris PCU. It is classified as a large-volume infusion pump that continuously or intermittently delivers fluids, medications, blood, and blood products to adult, pediatric, or neonatal patients. Clinicians can attach up to four Alaris Pump Modules to a single PC Unit. They can be attached to either side of the PC Unit to create the desired configuration. This pump module is commonly called the Alaris 8100.

BD Alaris Auto-ID Module

BD Alaris Auto-ID Module - Model 8600 - Soma Technology, Inc.

The BD Alaris Auto-ID Module supports pump module programming. This helps reduce the likelihood of programming errors. The Alaris Auto-ID Module Model 8600 incorporates IV barcoding which is independent of the facility barcoding or IT strategy. It attaches directly to the Alaris PC Unit and confirms the patient, clinician, and drug information. This system allows hospitals with or without a wireless network or barcoding system to benefit from the added safety of barcoding for IV therapy. The Auto-ID enables the inclusion of patient and clinician identification in data captured at the point of care.

BD Alaris EtCO2 Module

BD Alaris EtCO2 Module - Model 8300 - Soma Technology, Inc.

The BD Alaris EtCO2 Module is a side-stream capnograph. The End-tidal (EtCO2) functionality pauses a PCA infusion if that patient’s respiratory status falls below the hospital’s defined limits. This module supports a reduced length of stay and transfers to higher levels of care. This capnograph utilizes sampling lines that cut the need for moving parts, external sensors, or routine calibration.

BD Alaris PCA Module

BD Alaris PCA Module - Model 8120 - Soma Technology, Inc.

The BD Alaris PCA Module is a syringe-based patient-controlled analgesia device. It is intended for facilities that use syringe pumps for the delivery of medications or fluids. This module can be used on adults, pediatrics, and neonates for continuous or intermittent delivery. The acceptable routes of delivery are; intravenous (IV), subcutaneous, or epidural. Only one PCA pump can be connected to the Alaris system at one time. The PCA Module provides quick access to the total dose history. This gives you additional tools to analyze and address a patient’s response to pain therapy.

Refurbished Alaris PC Unit and Modules

Soma Technology refurbishes the Alaris PC Unit and all of its modules. When the units come into our facility they undergo a specific refurbishment process. They are inspected, disassembled, tested, calibrated, and necessary parts are replaced. Soma Technology not only technically refurbishes medical equipment but also cosmetically refurbishes them. The equipment is cleaned, sanded, repainted, and replaces decals. After the machine is put back together, it undergoes a quality control test and is then packaged for shipping. These Alaris PC Units and modules are brought back to their OEM specifications before leaving our facility.

If you have any questions about our refurbishment process, what products we carry, or if you need a quick quote, contact Soma Tech Intl at [email protected] or call 1-800-GET-SOMA.
