EKG/ECG Machines

Electrocardiograms

The trace/waveform on an EKG machine has become synonymous with the iconography of healthcare. Many companies use this pattern to identify an association with medical care; you can even find it in our Soma logo! Cartoons and television shows use a flat line to show that someone has passed. However, reading these machines, and the doctors and nurses who use them, have a slightly more complicated role to play in health care.

An EKG is an electrocardiogram. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute describes EKGs for use in diagnosing heart blockage. Each time the heart pumps, it sends an electronic signal. The EKG machine records how often one of these electronic signals are sent. “In a healthy adult heart at rest, the SA node sends an electrical signal to begin a new heartbeat 60-100 times a minute.” After the signal is spread across the ventricles, it is recorded as a P wave. Once the signal passes through the AV node, this is the beginning of the Q wave. This is a noninvasive process. There are typically 12 leads that are put on to the body that result in the electrical signals being graphed on the screen.

An EKG would be used on anyone who is at risk of having cardiac issues. These issues include First, Second, Third Degree Heart Block, Mobitz Type I, and Type II. People who are hooked on to an EKG machine are being monitored for significant changes in their heart function.

Settings Used in an EKG

EKG’s are used in any setting where the heart needs to be monitored. This includes Emergency Rooms, Intensive Care Units, Operating Rooms, and surgical centers. EKGs are almost exclusively never used alone; always in conjunction with other machines, including patient monitors.

Ailments

An EKG Machine is generally used on people with a heart murmur, arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), myocardial infarctions (heart attacks), and for seizures.

ECG/EKG System Refurbishment Process

Soma Technology is a leader in refurbished capital medical equipment. Soma Technology has been in business for over 26 years and looks forward to excelling in the medical refurbishment market. Not only does Soma Technology technically refurbish their products, they also cosmetically refurbish. Each product is fully tested and brought back to their OEM standards through; disassembly, inspection, cleaning, repair, replacements of necessary parts, calibration, and special cosmetic restoration. These products are able to function as if they did the day they left the manufacturer. Soma has a team of specified biomedical engineers to work on each equipment before it leaves our facility that ensures each product functions and looks the way the OEM intended.

Not only does Soma Technology refurbish and offer service on EKG and ECG Machines, Soma also offers these services on a wide range of medical equipment from top manufacturers like GE, Philips, Drager, Physio-Control and more! If you have any questions or just looking for a quick quote on any product give us a call at 1-800-438-7662 where you can talk to a knowledgeable sales representative.

Why choose refurbished? Cost is the biggest deterrent to buying new medical equipment. Buying refurbished capital medical equipment allows the buyer to acquire about two refurbished devices at the cost of one new one. This helps smaller hospitals with their budget, and help compete with larger hospitals. There is a big difference between used and refurbished equipment. Used equipment implies that the equipment comes “as is” from the previous owner. Used equipment has an assumed connotation of being mishandled, broken, and/or does not function properly.

Refurbished equipment is different. The devices are brought to our state of the art facility. Our team of biomedical engineer’s test and calibrate the equipment to be brought back to OEM specifications. Parts that need to be replaced are replaced, thanks to Soma’s large inventory of parts, which can be found at somamedicalparts.com. After these devices are fixed, they are cosmetically enhanced. The equipment is sanded, painted, and outfitted with new stickers and decals. Finally, the refurbishment process is complete after the medical equipment is packaged up and ready to ship.
