Why Breastfeeding is Good for Babies

All of the nutrients that babies need, comes from breast milk. Formula, includes these same nutrients, but is processed. Some women who cannot breastfeed, attend hospitals that have women who volunteer to breastfeed other women’s babies. Breastmilk contains fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, water, enzymes, amino acids and white cells. The longer a woman breastfeeds, the more fats and calories her baby consumes. Until the child can eat and digest solid foods, this and formula are their only chance at being fed.

Breastfeeding Promotes Relationship Between Mother and Child

It is scientifically known that a baby can die from lack of touch. Breastfeeding is an intimate moment between mother and child, where not only does the baby get fed, it promotes a bonding relationship between parent and child. Babies in the NICU sometimes are held by volunteers that swaddle them to promote comfort and safety.

Final Thoughts

Some women cannot produce enough milk, and for some, the pain that can come with breastfeeding is far too painful to continue. Formula is a perfectly safe, albeit more expensive resource.
