Coping With Anxiety

Anxiety is an emotion often felt by most people, but there are those who suffer from it on a consistent basis as a mood disorder. Over 40 million Americans in the United States have a disorder related to anxiety. There is a high chance that somebody you know has anxiety. Anxiety can manifest into irrational/illogical actions, panic attacks, and sometimes comes hand in hand with depression. For those who experience anxiety to the point where it causes discomfort or interferes with their life; should seek immediate help. Therapy helps people pinpoint their triggers, how to deal with anxious thoughts, and strategies to avoid these thoughts in the future.

There are a variety of ways that people cope with their anxiety. The ADAA, Anxiety and Depression Association of America suggests many ways to help with stress and anxiety. When you feel as though you are becoming overwhelmed, “take deep breaths, count to 10, talk to friends, and take a time out.” When you have calmed yourself, it is important to have strategies for the future. Keeping up a lifestyle change will help maintain a positive outlook. Eating healthily, and exercising have shown to increase happiness on their own. The ADAA recommends avoiding alcohol and getting enough sleep.
