Engineer’s Week – Part 2

Why did you want to become an engineer?

I am a problem solver from birth. This is why I studied Anthropology. You can go into any environment, observe and help to implement things that can assist in that environment without changing the normal.

What’s the best part of your job?

When I go into a facility to fix a piece of equipment and they ask me if the tech is behind me. Or, I get handed the phone and say, “hello, how may I help you?” and the customer says, “Oh I’m waiting for tech support.” and I reply, “Oh, I think that’s me.”

Do you have any advice for  little kids who want to be an engineer?

You can be whatever you want. Don’t look at the limitations of anything, color outside the lines. Meaning, the definition of an engineer is a person who designs. If you are the designer you can decide what the limitations are or what lines to color.

What is the best thing about working at Soma?

The other engineers I have met. Creative minds, and swapping ideas.

1. I am a christian married woman, with two beautiful daughters

2. I have a BS in Forensic Anthropology

Why did you want to become an engineer?

I loved solving problems and fixing stuff. I used to fix old VCRs and bicycles for friends and relatives.

What’s the best part of your job?

Fixing machines which are faulty, finding new replacement parts which are inexpensive and of good quality. Also, helping peers to solve their issues. 

Do you have any advice for  little kids who want to be an engineer?

Have an open mind and try to explore more. Always ask why and have that inquisitive mind. And parents please encourage your kids when they ask you questions.

What is it like being a female engineer?

My mom never made me feel any different and I just picked what I liked. 

What is the best thing about working at Soma?

Being hands on, learning everyday on the job. Best management and colleagues. It is a great place to learn on the go. I have the best boss who is understanding and patient and helps every one of us grow.
