The Amazing Circulatory System
March 7, 2018The Amazing Circulatory System
This travels more than 60,000 miles a day circulating through our body. It is responsible for the color beneath our lips, and skin. We have over 20 -30 trillion of these in our bodies at any given time. Do you know what the answer is?
The Answer
The answer is red blood cells!
The Structure of Red Blood Cells
Red blood cells are red due to the concentration of hemoglobin. They work to carry oxygen to other parts of the body. The heart oxygenates blood. The other blood cells are known as white blood cells that help fight infections. Platelets in the blood are used for clotting purposes. Plasma carries proteins and hormones.
There are multiple blood disorders. A few of them include problems with the blood clotting when there is an open wound. People who have hemophilia lack the ability to have platelets stick together. Deep Vein Thrombosis is the development of a blood clot in one of the deep veins in the leg. Pulmonary embolisms happen from a blood clot in the lungs traveling to other parts of the body.

Blood is one of the only resources on earth that humans can make, and scientists cannot make artificially. Blood donations have the ability to save up to three people for each donation. The American Red Cross holds local blood drives all the time. Visit their website to read more about donation.
