National First Responders Day - Soma Tech Intl

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF NATIONAL FIRST RESPONDERS DAY?

Not all heroes wear capes. National First Responders Day on October 28 recognizes the heroic men and women who have to prioritize taking immediate action when disaster strikes. Designated by the United States Congress in 2017, the resolution honors firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and many others who are the first to arrive on the scene of stressful situations. Particularly during this COVID-19 pandemic, which has had a continuing effect on communities socially and economically across the country. According to Johns Hopkins , as of October 26, there have been a total of 8,661,917 diagnosed cases and 225,379 deaths nationwide

As the joint forecast predicts that the number of COVID-19 cases may increase over the next four weeks, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there is still uncertainty about official vaccines being available to the public. Furthermore, increased reliance on our emergency dispatchers is only certain. Therefore, Soma Tech Intl highly honors our first responders and understands the selfless heroes who risk their lives for the well-being of others during this pandemic. We pride ourselves on being able to do our utmost to supply necessary medical equipment that is heavily used by first responders, such as AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) and ALS (Advanced Life Support).

EXAMPLES OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT USED BY FIRST RESPONDERS

Automated external defibrillators ( AEDs) are computerized devices that are reliable and easy to operate, providing a key element in resuscitation efforts. AEDs deliver a therapeutic electrical shock through the chest wall to the heart as a treatment for sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). During SCA, the heart stops suddenly, and in 90% of cases, the heart enters a fatal rhythm known as ventricular fibrillation . Portable AEDs like the Physio Control LifePak CR Plus enable more people to respond quickly to a medical emergency requiring defibrillation. Unlike AEDs with complex indications and limited defibrillation energy, the Physio Control LifePak CR Plus combines easy two-step operation, the correct level of guidance, and the ability to scale up to 360 joules when needed. AEDs are considered a public access device designed for use by anyone, regardless of training.

Advanced Life Support (ALS) defibrillators are the second step in the treatment of a victim of sudden cardiac arrest who has been treated with an automated external defibrillator (AED). When an AED response program is working, the work doesn’t end. Once ALS personnel arrive, the patient will be treated with an ALS-type monitor/defibrillator. These devices, such as the Zoll M Series , allow trained professionals to monitor the patient’s rhythm and manually intervene if a shock is determined to be required, and then report the information to the hospital. ALS treatment is the fourth link in the chain of survival .

RECOGNIZING OUR HEROES

We owe our tremendous respect to our first responders for their tireless efforts to cope with any unfathomable stressful situation on a daily basis. It is important that everyone in our communities continues to raise awareness and understanding of the importance of this national day.
