M Series Features

The Zoll M Series defibrillator combines advanced patient monitoring, noninvasive pacing, ECG display, and defibrillation with printing and recording in one device. This Zoll defibrillator can be used in all resuscitation situations in a hospital or EMS use. It can be configured to operate in manual, advisory, or semi-automated modes. The M Series Defibrillator from Zoll is compatible with the CPR-D-padz to utilize the Real CPR Help that provides feedback to the rescuer during CPR. PCMCIA cards can be installed to record ECG, voice data, and other system data to be reviewed and archived on a computer. The Zoll M Series Defibrillator is the predecessor to the M Series CCT version of the Zoll Defibrillator.

  • Capability of delivering 360 joules of energy (200 joules for biphasic units.)
  • Can be used in manual and semi-automatic defibrillation modes.
  • CPR monitoring that provides visual and audio feedback to maintain compressions at the AHA/ERC recommended rate.
  • External pacing with continuously variable current and pulses per minute.
  • Vital signs trending including heart rate, SpO2, end-tidal CO2, respiration, and noninvasive systolic, diastolic, and mean blood pressure.
  • 3, 5, or 12-lead ECG analysis.

More information on the Zoll M Series

Expanded information and Connectivity
The M Series ex p a n d s your information capabilities. A new code marker system follows AHA algorithms and makes charting easy with “one-touch” voice and data annotation. New code markers print on Summary Reports and a removable PCMCIA card provides easy downloading of information to a PC for Utstein template analysis. A MIB card and RS 232 card provide true open architecture connectivity to HIS and CIS.

Simple Connections for Operator Confidence
The M Series provides a common connector for paddles and pads. There are no adapters or misconnections that can delay life-saving efforts. Built-in pediatric paddles and a complete line of disposable electrodes meet all demands

Xtreme Pack for Protection and Cable Management
— The Xtreme Pack protects the M Series in even the harshest usage situations. The durable and resilient rubber jacket conveniently stores cables, electrodes, batteries, and accessories. The washable jacket completely surrounds the unit for unmatched protection, and immediate access to all controls, patient connections, and displays.

Built-in Recorder for Accurate Documentation
—A built-in 3-channel strip chart recorder with 60mm paper provides a printout for all ECGs, a full code summary, as well as defibrillation, pacing, patient care, and treatment documentation following the event.

Always Ready with Built-in AC Power and Battery Charger
An internal charger automatically recharges the battery whenever the unit is plugged in. Built-in AC power allows the unit to operate continuously anywhere in the hospital.

Cleaning

The M Series products and their accessories are chemically resistant to the most common cleaning solutions and non-caustic detergents. The following list includes approved cleaning solutions;

  • 90% Isopropyl alcohol (except adapters and patient cable)
  • Soap and water
  • Chlorine bleach (30ml/l water)

ZOLL recommends cleaning the device, paddles, and cables with a soft damp cloth, and the cleaning agents mentioned. The recorder parts should be cleaned with a damp, soft cloth only.

Do not immerse any part of the unit (including paddles) in water. Do not use ketones (MEK, acetone, etc.). Avoid using abrasives (e.g., paper towels) on the display window. Do not sterilize the unit.

Special care should be taken to clean the defibrillation paddles after each use. Build up of gel will interfere with paddle ECG (first look) monitoring and may produce a shock hazard to the operator. Keep paddle handles clean.

Cleaning the Recorder Printhead

To clean the Recorder printhead perform the following steps:

  • Press down and pull the Paper Compartment drawer where the RELEASE label is located.
  • Remove the paper (if necessary).
  • Pull the drawer out all the way.
  • Tip the unit backward so that the bottom of the drawer is easily visible.
  • Locate the plastic tab in the back of the drawer.
  • Press tab
  • Locate the row of soft, thin bristles. 8. Locate a thin black line (Printhead) adjacent and parallel to the bristles.
  • Gently wipe the thin black line with an alcohol (Isopropyl) moistened Q-tip. Dry any residual alcohol with a new Q-tip.
  • (disengaging plastic ridge) and pull the drawer until removed.
  • Place the drawer and paper back into the unit.

Changing Paper

Press down and pull the paper tray drawer where the “RELEASE” label is located. The drawer slides open.

Check for adequate paper supply. If the paper supply is low, remove the paper from the tray. Place a new pad of thermal paper in the drawer with the paper coming off the top of the pad and the grid facing up.

Pull enough paper off the pad so that the paper extends out of the strip recorder when the paper compartment drawer is closed.

Close the paper compartment drawer by pushing the drawer in and pressing down lightly where the “RELEASE” label is located until the drawer is flush with the front of the device.

General Information About Defibrillators

Why Defibrillation?

  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCR) - Rapid irregular rhythm causing heart to quiver
  • Cause: Ventricular Fibrillation (VF)
    • Can lead to death if emergency shock not delivered
  • Defibrillation – to counteract fibrillation

Defibrillator

Manual External Defibrillator

  • Widely used in Hospitals and clinics
  • Inbuilt EKG reader
  • Clinician Diagnoses the condition and accordingly administers the shock through paddles or pads

Manual Internal Defibrillator

  • Exclusively used in Operation Theatres
