Pelton & Crane Magnaclave Features

The Magna-Clave features a series of safety measures, like a Pelton & Crane-patented door lock that seals the entirety of the sterilizer’s rim, as well as clarity features like a series of indicator lights (“Power On,” “Heat On,” “Sterile,” and “Open Door”). The Magna-Clave the sterilizer is a manually-operated sterilizer with a 15-inch internal diameter by a 30-inch-deep, round, stainless-steel chamber. Due to its large capacity, ease of use, and quick cycle speed (completes a flash cycle in 18 minutes from a warm start), it should come as no surprise that Pelton & Crane’s Magna-Clave is an industry-leading sterilizing unit.

More Information on the Pelton & Crane Magnaclave

    Operational Features

    • Timer activates automatically as the desired pressure for sterilization is reached
    • Large capacity (15” x 26”) makes the unit ideal for busy group practices, emergency clinics, nursing homes, veterinary clinics, and small hospitals.
    • Safety lock system protects personnel from accidentally opening the door under pressure.
    • Accommodates up to 14 Hu-Friedy cassettes for dental offices. Stand provides a handy storage space.
    • Completes a flash cycle in 18 minutes from a warm start, and 35 minutes from a cold start.
    • Reservoir drain is conveniently located on the front for each cleaning.
    • Bed pan tray is available as an option for added flexibility
    • Optional temperature recorder provides hard copy documentation of chamber temperature
    • is designed and built to ASME specifications for the safety of operation.
    • Clear concise operating instructions make training easy.
    • Large chamber holds multiple surgical packs, gowns, bedpans, etc.
    • Patented door lock provides maximum safety blocking the entire rim of the door.
    • Door interlock solenoid must be energized for the door to open which ensures that the door cannot be opened with pressure in the chamber.
    • Separate temperature and pressure gauges make monitoring sterilization parameters simple and easy.
    • Indicator lights show “Power On”, “Heat On”, “Sterile”, and “Open Door”, giving an easy positive indication of the status of the sterilization cycle.
    • Green area is clearly marked on both the temperature and pressure gauge showing the normal sterilization range for quick minoring.
    • The buzzer sounds at the end of the sterilization cycle alerting the operator that can be vented.
    • The water reservoir has a large capacity to adequately cool condensed steam, reducing the need for refilling.
    • Safety interlock prevents the main heater from activating unless the door is securely locked for added safety.
    • “Open door” light lets the operator know the pressure has dissipated to the point where the door can be safely opened.
    • Water level indicator clearly shows how much water is needed
    • Preheat feature allows faster sterilization cycles even at the start of the.
    • Mechanical stops prevent the function control from being/ operated in an unsafe manner.
    • Omni-cleaner safely and effectively cleans chamber and internal parts
    • Fill filter removes for cleaning.

    Cleaning the Magnaclave

It is highly recommended that the autoclave is cleaned a minimum of once a week with Omni-Cleaner and distilled or demineralized water. The Omni-Cleaner is a mildly alkaline concentrate used to clean and descale autoclaves. Minerals, especially chlorides, are corrosive to stainless steel. Therefore, tap water with a high mineral content should not be used. When sterilizing saline solutions, it is imperative that the autoclave be cleaned after each use. With proper cleaning, the autoclave will provide higher performance and longer life.

    Cleaning Procedures

    • Mix 12 ounces of Omni-Cleaner in one gallon of distilled, demineralized water.
    • Drain water from the reservoir. Refill the reservoir with a solution of Omni-Cleaner and water. (The reservoir will not be full. However, the level will be adequate.)
    • Run one- 20-minute sterilizing cycle to remove all grease and grime from the system. If the autoclave is extremely dirty, it may require a second cleaning. Do not sterilize instruments while cleaning the autoclave.
    • Drain cleaning solution from reservoir and chamber. Rinse thoroughly with clean, mineral-free water, and run a rinse cycle for fifteen minutes.
    • Drain rinse solution and wipe inside of boiler thoroughly. If the scale or lime deposits remain inside of the chamber, ensure that the autoclave is cool. Then clean with water, plastic or nylon scouring pads, and a nonchlorinated detergent.
NOTE: Detergents containing chlorine are corrosive to stainless steel and should not be used. Do not use ordinary steel wool or steel brushes on stainless steel. Pads containing metal may damage the chamber.
    • Refill the reservoir with clean, mineral-free water. The Magna-Clave is now ready for use.

    Draining Reservoir

    • The reservoir drain hose is located inside the right-hand door of the stand, near the top. For Magna-Claves which do not have a stand, the hose will be located under the front edge and to the left of the unit. The drain hose may be drained by removing it from its clip and unscrewing the tip end. The hose should be drained into a 10-quart capacity container. When the reservoir is completely drained, replace the tip and clip the drain hose in place.

    Cleaning Fill Filter

    • Pull out fill tube and filter assembly from the inside of the chamber and clean the filter with a stiff brush and nonchlorinated detergent.
    • Replace fill tube and filter assembly. Make sure the filter is flat against the bottom of the chamber. If the filter does not lie flat against the bottom of the chamber, an excessive amount of water will remain in the chamber after the sterilizing cycles. Failure to clean this filter regularly will result in excessive time to fill and vent the chamber.

    Cleaning

Clean all exterior surfaces with mild detergent and water using a sponge or cloth.
    • Exterior surfaces may be disinfected using an iodophor (Biocide, Biotrol, Inc., N. Salt Lake City, Utah, or equivalent), glutaraldehyde (Cidex, Surgicos, Dallas, Texas, or equivalent) or sodium hypochlorite (household bleach diluted 1:10-1:100. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for mixing and use. Otherwise, unsatisfactory results and/or damage may occur. Do not use household bleach on the interior stainless steel surfaces.
