How Do Bladder Scanners Work?

Bladder scanners are essentially ultrasound machines. This means that they emit ultrasonic waves. These waves will bounce off of tissue and form an image on the screen. The parts that were reflected by hardened tissue are white. This means that an image will form out of white lines and shapes consisting of showing the bladder, and any urine that is in the bladder. Ultimately, a bladder scanner works by showing how much urine the bladder is producing, and if the urine levels change between each reading taken by the clinician.

BVI 9400

The BVI 9400 is one of our most widely requested bladder scanners and ultrasounds. This unit is integrated with NeuralHarmonics technology. This unit consists of the compact battery-operated console and the ultrasound probe that is attached. As soon as the operator releases the scan button, images are compiled in seconds. The devices use the planes in the body to create a 3-dimensional image while calculating the volume of fluid in the bladder. Neural Harmonics technology in the BVI 9400 makes this more accurate than a 2-dimensional reading. There is no sonographer required while using this unit. The measurements can be printed on the onboard printer which is transmitted using HIPAA-compliant ScanPoint technology. ScanPoint and QuickPrint allow the user to archive data, calibrate the device, update software, and transfer data through a web-based interface. Including the battery, this unit weighs a little more than 5 pounds which makes it ideal for transportability between patient rooms. Features include a lithium-ion battery pack, Class I basic insulation, Category II overvoltage, and an integrated thermal label printer.
