R Series Features

The Zoll R Series defibrillator features simple, smart, and ready defibrillation to hospitals. The Zoll defibrillator R Series offers easy-to-use technology that will deliver high-quality CPR. With its different models, this defibrillator makes code-readiness possible for every hospital department with advanced, cost-effective solutions for resuscitation. The R-Series is available with pacing, end-tidal CO2, non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP), and SpO2 monitoring capabilities. Once a day this defibrillator conducts an automated, comprehensive self-test that includes battery status and electrode integrity to ensure it's code-ready. This unit has easy-to-use technology that helps you consistently deliver high-quality CPR with its CPR Dashboard with Real CPR Help. This feature guides rescuers with real-time auto and visual feedback on CPR quality measures. It provides numeric displays of depth and rate and visual indicators of compression release, as well as a unique Perfusion Performance Indicator. See-Thru CPR reduces the duration of pauses during CPR by filtering out the CPR artifact so rescuers can see whether an organized underlying rhythm has developed without stopping compressions.

Simple because only one therapy cable is needed for defibrillation, cardioversion, and pacing. No separate 3 lead cable required. The OneStep Complete Resuscitation Electrode has built-in 3 leads in the pad, eliminating those extra steps if the patient needs to be paced immediately after resuscitation.

Smart due to the Real CPR Help used to coach to the proper compression rate and depth during CPR as well as See-Thru CPR to minimize pauses during CPR compressions. It’s the only monitor/defibrillator that recognizes the OneStep Pediatric electrode and automatically lowers the energy setting to 50J to prevent an accidental overdose of energy, and the unique pediatric algorithms that allow proper analysis of arrhythmias for younger patients.

Ready as the R Series conducts an automated self-test once a day. No need to do manual testing. Simply verify the green checkmark is present during your shift check. ZOLL’s patented external pacing allows superior capture at lower mean thresholds, reducing muscle artifact and ensuring more patient comfort and tolerance.

The Zoll R uses event documentation via internal memory, as well as a removable compact flash card for easy data transfer and archiving. When used with CodeNet, ZOLL's PDA-based code data management system, the R Series communication capability makes record keeping a breeze. A WiFi-enabled option is also available.

  • Always Code-Ready
  • Remote viewing and administration from PC or mobile device
  • History of readiness logs for the Joint Commission
  • Readiness check includes defib, pacing, and ECG modules; AC power; battery; 30-joule shock test; electrodes attached and not expired
  • Customizable dashboard

General Information About Defibrillators, AED, and CPR

Why Defibrillation?

  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCR)-Rapid irregular rhythm causing heart to quiver
  • Cause: Ventricular Fibrillation (VF)
    • Can lead to death if emergency shock not delivered
  • Defibrillation – to counteract fibrillation

Defibrillator

  • Device used to administer an electric current (shock) to the heart
  • Types of Defibrillators
    • Manual external
    • Manual Internal
    • Automated External (AED)
    • Semi-Automated External
    • Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (ICD)

Manual External Defibrillator

  • Widely used in Hospitals and clinics
  • Inbuilt EKG reader
  • Clinician Diagnoses the condition and accordingly administers the shock through paddles or pads

Manual Internal Defibrillator

  • Exclusively used in Operation Theatres
  • Charge delivered through internal paddles in direct contact with the heart

Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Used by lay persons requiring little training
  • Built in heart rhythm analyzer
  • Advices whether shock is required

Semi-Automated External Defibrillators

  • Used by paramedics and emergency medical technicians
  • Automated capabilities of AED
  • With ECG display and manual over ride option

Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator

  • Implants similar to pacemakers
  • Constantly monitor heart rhythm
  • Automatically administers shock for arrhythmias

Types of waveform - Shape of defibrillation current

  • Monophasic damped sine waveform – delivers energy in one direction
    • Relies on adjustment of joule settings
  • Biphasic damped sine waveform – bi-directional current flow
    • Measures impedance of patient and delivers precise dose of electricity
    • Uses significantly low energy levels
    • Decreases risk of burn in Myocardial damage
