National Organ Donor Day
February 14, 2018National Organ Donor Day
Happy Valentine’s Day, and Happy National Organ Donor Day. Today we raise awareness for those who are registered organ donors. or those who want to become organ donors. On average, over 20 people a day die waiting for a transplant or a donation. Every 10 minutes someone is added to the organ donation list.
Since the human body cannot be reproduced as per now; although there are scientists working on creating organs from stem cells. Patients who need organ donations rely on the kind-hearted individuals who are organ donors.
One donor can choose to donate organs upon their death, donate to someone while alive depending on the organ, or join an organ pool. An organ pool is when someone needs an organ, but they can’t directly get a match. If someone needs a liver, they can have someone who needs a kidney, who donates bone marrow to give to someone who donates part of a liver.
Organ donation is a true act of kindness. Bodybuilder Andrew Jones suffers from cardiomyopathy. In 2016 he received a heart transplant. Since then, he has become even more active and working on his physique. He credits organ donation with saving his life and giving him more years to look forward to.
More Donations
There are more ways to help people than in donating an organ. This past January was National Blood Donor Month. Many people need blood donations to keep them alive. These conditions who need donors include cystic fibrosis, hemophilia, Rhesus, people who have been in freak accidents and lost copious amounts of blood, among other situations.
