Surgical Microscope Rentals

An optimal visualization of anatomical structures is crucial for surgeons to ensure precise surgical interventions. Given the minute scale of certain anatomical features, ranging from millimeters to microns, achieving a clear view necessitates a resolution far surpassing the capability of the human eye. Consequently, surgical microscopes play an indispensable role in various medical procedures, including neurosurgery, ear-nose-throat (ENT) surgeries, and spinal interventions.

Nevertheless, the acquisition of surgical microscopes often exceeds the annual capital allocation of medical institutions globally. Hence, leasing medical equipment emerges as a viable alternative solution.

REASONS TO CONSIDER RENTING SURGICAL MICROSCOPE EQUIPMENT

Healthcare equipment is necessary because clinical satisfaction and patient care are the most critical concerns for every healthcare executive. With the rapid advancement in operating microscope technology, optics, work environment integrations, recalls, and an increase in capital requirements, healthcare practitioners, must manage funds efficiently. This makes it more efficient to rent medical equipment than to purchase new devices. Reasons why renting is the right option for facilities working with tight budgets and other concerns are:

  • Technology Consistency: With rapid technological advancement, it’s challenging for hospitals to keep up with all the medical devices that emerge. Repairs and recalls may occur when using old technology. Errors in programming may also result in severe harm or leave lasting impressions on the clinician’s confidence.
  • Elimination of Constant Repairs Recalls: Medical equipment is susceptible to repairs and recalls that require prompt replacement. The problem is that the devices may be unavailable in times of emergency. Broken equipment results in hospital equipment shortages, which can come with high costs. In some cases, this could even damage a facility’s reputation.
  • Lack of Capital Budget: Capital budgeting requires a balance in numerous projects, which means purchasing equipment may not work. Upgrading or purchasing new patient care technology may be too costly.
  • Unpredictable Patient Census: The number of patients occupying hospital beds at a time may be unpredictable. It can be frustrating for medical practitioners to operate without the right medical devices for patients in need of treatment.
  • Ability To Try New Technologies: It’s not easy to know whether the latest technology will reduce costs and improve patient results. Through medical equipment rentals, facilities can assess whether the equipment will make an impact on their initiatives.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: HOW TO DRAPE A SURGICAL MICROSCOPE?

We would like to address inquiries regarding the appropriate technique for draping a surgical microscope. Proper draping is essential for keeping the microscope sterile during surgery. We’ll properly explain the steps, focusing on attention to detail and following infection control guidelines.

A microscope drape is a very thin, transparent, and heat-resistant plastic film that houses the whole surgical microscope, and it includes a transparent optical lens enclosing an objective lens and ocular-housing extensions. The drape is seamed for sterile packaging to ensure the microscope’s sterility during surgery. Before draping the microscope:

  • Check that the binocular tubes are configured in the correct position
  • Make sure that the balancing has been done properly

Microscope draping procedure:

  • Open the drape (to be opened by the non-sterile nurse)
  • Unfold the drape
  • Detach the rubber bands
  • Find and lift the lens cover
  • Fasten the lens cover on the microscope
  • Pull the drape over the microscope head and arm
  • Drape the eyepieces using the covers
  • Secure the drape with Velcro straps
  • Place the remaining drape inside the space
  • Wrap the bands around the microscope head and arm
  • Use rubber bands to tighten if necessary
  • Lastly, rotate the microscope to confirm that it can easily be moved in all directions

Regardless of our recommendation on properly draping a surgical microscope rental, we encourage you to follow the instructions given by the manufacturer of the sterile drape.
