What Are Some Lunar New Year Traditions

Luck is an extremely important factor in making the best new year. Red is seen as a lucky color in China. People wear red to usher in the new year. To celebrate themes of wealth, luck, and good fortune, people give money in red envelopes, eat dumplings, hang lanterns, and decorate houses with red paper. Fireworks and firecrackers are typically used in the festivities. Dragon dances are also very common.

The Year of the Pig

This year it is the year of the pig. Every twelve years there are zodiac animals that correspond to the year. The pig is said to represent a social person who is genuine, giving, patient, honest, and generous. Celebrities who happen to be pigs are  Carrie Underwood, Julie Andrews, Ewan McGregor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Amy Winehouse, Alfred Hitchcock, Mariah Carey, Magic Johnson, and many more.
