World Health Day is April 7th

World Health Day is tomorrow. We are raising awareness every day about the health of humans, and usually only use data from the United States. We want to raise awareness for every human. From our neighborhoods, to our towns, state, country, and all countries of the world, we celebrate good health practices on a global community scale.

What is Good Health?

Being in good health means that our bodies are working to their maximum functions, with no major impairing. There are major lifestyle choices we can make to stay in good health. Although health is a state that alters day to day, we can keep a schedule of how well we take care of our bodies.

Exercise and food choices are shown to dramatically influence the chemistry in our brains, and our physical appearances. Firstly, it has been proven over and over again that obesity is one of the worst things we can do to our bodies. Obesity increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and some cancers, among countless other ailments. Practicing health eating and regular exercise is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Avoiding alcohol, drugs, and tobacco also affects one’s health. Firstly, the risk of doing drugs regularly destroys bodily functions, and in many cases leads to fatal overdoses. Cigarettes have over 60 known carcinogens in them. These agents are widely known to cause cancers such as lung, throat, and mouth cancer. Alcoholism is widely responsible for birth defects, as is use of tobacco and drugs while pregnant. Alcoholism over time will lead to impaired motor skills, strained relationships, and cirrhosis of the liver.

Testing Our Good Health

No matter how healthy you feel, it is important to always exercise good health practices. Often people do not go to the doctor unless they are feeling sick. It is important to always make your yearly or bi-yearly appointments with your primary care physician, dentist, OBGYN, or more regular visits with a psychiatrist.

Health isn’t Just Physical

While our physical health is one that everyone notices, you may not be taking proper care of your mental health. Recognizing the signs of mental illness, or a mood disorder can drastically change your lifestyle. If you think you may be depressed, anxious, bipolar, schizophrenic, or something of that nature, please seek treatment. There is a stigma that mental illness is something that people should hide. It is becoming popular to seek treatment and speak to a therapist if you feel you need to. Therapy usually turns out to be very freeing and allow the individual a safe space to talk about their thoughts.

Our relationships matter as well. Who we surround ourselves with can impact our lifestyle choices. Positive people tend to surround themselves with uplifting people who don’t tear them down. Please make sure you have a great support group full of trusting and loyal family members and friends.
